HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

Every Mother takes great pride in the accomplishments of her children at every stage of life from the first step of walking to that child’s getting into college and beyond.

Here is the story of one child’s building confidence!

Emma Walas, is now 9 years old; but a few years ago when she was about 5 she was in a pre-school singing group that was scheduled to give a Christmas Concert.  On the day of the concert, when it came time to go out on the stage, Emma did not go out with the rest of the group because she was too afraid.

Last October Emma began to study the violin with a wonderful teacher, James Zhang.  A few weeks ago Mr. Zhang informed Emma that he was scheduling a recital to be held in early May for some of his students.  Even though Emma was just a beginner, he felt she could play well enough to participate in that recital.

Emma was adamant that she could not and would not do it.  The very thought terrified her.  After much conversation and persuasion she finally agreed two weeks ago to do it.   She practiced a piece over and over that was challenging for her at this stage of development.  An hour before the recital she still wasn’t convinced that she could do it.

Emma took a giant leap toward building her self-confidence in performing at that recital.

Here is a short video of her performance.  She is accompanied by her grandmother, Carol Mulready, on the piano.  See what you think!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Spider Webs & Good Luck

It has been observed that people who appear to be lucky in life have spun a larger web of personal contacts than the unlucky people.

We all know people who appear to be “lucky” in life.  Things just seem to always go their way.  They get all the “breaks” that most of us do not get.

Believe it or not, there have been studies done of people like this and the conclusions might surprise you.  I am not going to pretend that this is the whole answer to these people but it is a large contributing factor to their success in life.

People who are lucky are “connected.”  During the course of their lives they have managed to spin a large web of relationships, friendships, connections; call them what you will.  These “lucky” people know lots of other people and are “in good” with them.

Think about it for a moment.  Think of the people you know and see if this is not true.  When opportunities come along these “connected” people hear about them through their network because their friends think of them first and they have lots of friends.

Now we have the social media like Facebook, Twitter and others.  Look at the people who have lots of friends and followers.  They are typically the people who are most successful in their online lives as well.

So…if you want to get “lucky” start spreading your web far and wide.

Sincerely;

Joanne & Paul
